When I first saw Fruition’s pink colored strawberries and cream bar on Instagram by a fellow chocoholic, I thought, “I neeeed this bar!” Yes, it is white chocolate, and I’m not a huge fan of white chocolate, but with spring weather coming around and the cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C., blooming soon, I knew this would be the perfect bar to pair with the happy feeling in the air. Sadly the snow and cold we recently experienced has held back some of the cherry blossom buds, but word is that some of the buds are hanging in there. To be honest, I ate this entire bar before even having the chance to hit up the Tidal Basin and Monument areas to view the trees, so… I’ll have to find another chocolate bar to take with me when I eventually get around to that.
I’ve had Fruition’s 68% Hispaniola bar before, but I hadn’t gotten around to trying more of their chocolate until now. Since it sounded like the strawberries and cream and “Wild Bolivia” bars were limited edition, I put in an order online to try them ASAP.
I usually gravitate toward chocolate made with cacao from Dominican Republic for it’s fruity notes, but lately I’ve been getting in Bolivian bars as well. This bar smelled nutty, like almonds, and my mouth was filled with the flavor of nuttiness. A touch of astringency developed as my bite melted. The nutty flavor remained throughout my entire bite and the astringency peaked toward the end. The chocolate melted slowly and had a very smooth texture. The boyfriend tried this bar and said he tasted blueberries. This bar overall was relatively subtle. Texture-wise it had a very pleasant mouthfeel.
I think every chocolate bar I’ve had with strawberries in it I was able to see obvious bits or chunks of the strawberries. With this bar, you don’t see any of that, but you can definitely smell and taste the berry flavor. The bar also had a creamy scent and flavor to it. If you’ve had the strawberries and cream frappuccino from Starbucks, this is it in bar form! The bonus is those cocoa nibs which lend a nice earthy flavor and crunchy texture. They help balance out the sweetness of the white chocolate base. This bar was gone within the first hour of my opening it and taking photos!
I hope Fruition keeps these bars around a bit longer because I definitely recommend trying them out! The strawberries and cream bar is at least a great seasonal bar. Fruition, as someone who’s otherwise not into white chocolate, you’ve won me over with this bar.
